British Gas Pricing
British Gas offers a variety of energy tariffs for gas and electricity. These tariffs come in two basic types: fixed or variable.
A fixed tariff can offer peace of mind, as you'll be protected from any future gas and electric price rises for the length of your tariff. This could be best if you want a fixed price for the length of your contract, pay by Direct Debit or on receipt of your bills, and understand exit fees apply if you leave.
The variable energy deals mean energy costs can increase or decrease depending on the latest energy prices. This could suit you if you want a contract with no end date or exit fees, pay by Direct Debit or on receipt of bills, and understand your energy costs can increase or decrease.
There are also specific tariffs for different needs. For example, there's an Electric vehicle tariff designed exclusively for EV drivers who mainly charge their EV during off peak-hours (from 12am to 5am) and have a smart meter. There's also a Dimplex Quantum tariff for those who have Dimplex Quantum storage heaters and want a cheaper night rate to charge their Dimplex Quantum storage heaters.
As a thank you for joining, customers can get a Smart Thermostat Mini from Hive, plus expert installation, for just £109. This thermostat is packed with clever features that help shrink your carbon footprint and save up to £151 a year.
Please note that the Ofgem price cap doesn't apply to fixed energy tariffs, but does apply to variable energy tariffs. The British Gas standard tariff is generally kept in line with the price cap, which was £1,138 for dual fuel since October 1st 2021.
For more specific pricing, it's recommended to enter details about your energy consumption on the British Gas website to get a gas and electricity quote.

British Gas Return Policy?
At British Gas, the return policy is as follows:
- A refund will be issued if:
- You have been billed within the past 14 days. This is to make sure you have enough funds in your account to pay for the energy you use.
- You're not switching to a different supplier.
- There is credit on your account.
If all of these apply to you, then your credit balance will be refunded to your bank account within 10 working days. Please make sure you have taken an up to date reading before you get in touch.
If you've moved home or you're switching to a new supplier, any money you're owed will be automatically refunded after you've paid your final bill. You can tell about your home move online, including sending closing meter readings. If you are going to choose to supply energy to your new home, the money can be transferred to your new account.
Please check the address as this is where the refund cheque will be posted to. Where possible, refunds will always try and be sent to the bank account you pay your energy from. Where this is not possible, a cheque will be sent. Please be aware that cheques take longer to reach you due to both processing and postage time.
For business energy credits and refunds, if you're supplied by British Gas and your business gas or electricity bill has a credit balance you may be eligible for a refund. The refund will be provided in these circumstances:
- Your account(s) have all been billed to an up to date meter reading in the last 28 days
- You have no outstanding balances on other accounts with us
- The refund amount you're requesting is from payments you've made to the account
If you're eligible for a refund, the payment will be made through the same method you've been using to make payments to British Gas within 10 working days. If there's an outstanding balance on any other energy accounts you hold with British Gas, this credit will be used to help pay what you owe.
If you've moved out of the business premise and the final account is based on an estimation, please provide an accurate meter reading, otherwise the value will be unable to be refunded for six months.
This is the return policy for British Gas. If you need more information, please visit the official website.
